Power and USB Ports

A power recliner's motor and any USB charging ports run off a standard household outlet - no special wiring is needed - but the chair's final position is fixed by how far the cord can reach, which is worth planning before the room is arranged.

What actually needs power

On a power recliner, the recline motor itself draws from the outlet. Where a piece also has massage, lumbar heat or USB-C charging, those features run off the same cord rather than needing a separate supply - one outlet per powered piece is normally enough. A manual chair with massage and heat still needs a cord for those features even though the recline itself does not.

Planning the outlet, not just finding one

The practical constraint is rarely whether power is available in the room - it is whether it reaches the exact spot the chair is meant to stand, without the cord crossing a walkway. Decide the chair's final position first, then check for an outlet within reach of that position specifically, rather than assuming any outlet in the room will do.

Multiple power pieces in one set

A set with two power recliners needs two outlets, one per chair, if both are meant to be used independently at the same time. That is a different requirement from a single outlet shared awkwardly between two pieces, and it is worth confirming before delivery rather than after. See how many seats fit a room for the layout arithmetic that goes with it.

Extension cords and power strips

A basic power strip is normally fine for a recliner's draw. Running a motor or a heating element through a long, thin extension cord not rated for continuous load is worth avoiding - check the cord's rating rather than assuming any extension cord will do, particularly for a piece with both massage and heat drawing at once.

Questions

Does a power recliner need special wiring?

No - a standard household outlet is normally sufficient for the motor and any USB or heat features on the same piece.

How many outlets does a 2-power-recliner set need?

Two, one per chair, if both are meant to recline independently at the same time.

Can I use an extension cord for a power recliner?

A power strip is usually fine; a long, thin, unrated extension cord is worth avoiding, especially for a piece drawing power for massage and heat at once.

Does a manual recliner with massage need power?

Yes, for the massage and heat features specifically, even though the recline handle itself does not.
